The S-A Journal of Japanese History

Submissions for the 2008 issues of the Samurai Archives Journal of Japanese History are currently being accepted. For information on the format guidelines, please see the Style Sheet. The journal has no academic affiliation, and as such, all articles will be evaluated for the veracity of ideas and scholarship independent of the academic affiliation of the author. Evaluation will be done by a group of volunteers with a background in the subject.

  • Article Subjects

    The Journal will consider any articles examining any aspect of pre-20th century Japan, with a slight preference for biographies, military history, and articles covering aspects of the Sengoku period (16th century Japan). Book reviews on pertinent works in the field of Japanese history are also welcome.

  • Submission process

    Articles can be submitted via email in word .doc format, or as a hard copy via the postal service (However, if chosen for publication, you will need an electronic copy available). If you chose to mail a hard copy, please include your name, address, and email address. You will be contacted by email if your article is accepted for publication. When applicable, the editors will endeavor to give feedback on rejected articles to give the authors the opportunity to resubmit them.

  • A Note About Sources

    The Journal requires that all sources be listed in the bibliography of each article. Sources will be evaluated by the editors, and unsourced articles will not be considered for publication. The use of Japanese sources is also encouraged, and must conform to the same standard as English sources. The editors will evaluate sources on a case-by-case basis.
